PERFORMANCES INSPIRED BY TANGO

Tradition and Transformation

Although tango is a traditional dance form with clearly defined codes—specific steps, figures, musical structures and historically rooted gender roles—I approach it from my background as a contemporary dancer. This creates a productive tension: on one hand, I acknowledge and respect the value of tradition and its embodied knowledge; on the other, I remain attentive to how these codes can be inhabited, questioned and reinterpreted from a contemporary perspective.

Even when performing what is considered “traditional” tango, I am still a contemporary dancer. This position turns tango into an ongoing learning process—both challenging and enriching—where tradition is not treated as a static reproduction, but as a living practice that gains meaning through presence, interpretation and context.
